Your Birthright

And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

Genesis 25:33

Esau was not concerned about his inheritance. For a morsel of bread he sold his birthright to his younger brother Jacob. Did Esau understand the importance of that birthright? Do you know your birthright as far as being an heir to the Kingdom is concerned? Or do you sell your birthright for a morsel of bread?

Having the birthright meant that you have a double portion of your fathers blessing. Esau was prepared to give up this double blessing for a morsel of bread. His father, Isaac, was a rich, prosperous man who continued the God- covenant promised to his father Abraham. Esau had nations to his name, but he chose to sell that blessing for a mere morsel of bread.

Having the birthright also meant authority over the household. If you have a birthright in your family, you are responsible for the affairs of the family, and not just yourself. The Word of God says that we are joint-heirs with Christ; we have the birthright to the kingdom of God. We have the authority and power over the enemy, and we have the control over our finances, our lives, and the lives of those that God entrusts to us. But we tend to sell our inheritance for a moment of pleasure.

Possessing the birthright also brought you into a close and favoured covenant-relationship with God. We are Gods firstfruits and heirs to the Kingdom. Would you give away that key to an eternal Kingdom for a morsel of pleasure?

Esau had no interest in spiritual matters. At that moment of selling his birthright he was engulfed with the fear of death. Tears of anguish and regret could not get back that birthright of the blessing of his father.

Are you waiting for your breakthrough? Waiting to see results? Do not sell your birthright now and give up an eternal inheritance. One morsel of bread now could cost you a feast with Jesus Christ in the near future.
