Walking on Water
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
Matthew 14:25With God all things are possible. Even walking on water. The disciples ventured out to sea in their ship. However, weather would not permit them to rest easy and the ship was tossed with the wind and the waves. During the night Jesus walked towards them on the sea. The disciples, thinking it was a spirit, started trembling in fear. Jesus humbly replied, "It is I, be not afraid."
So what we have is a ship. In our lives, we would call that a zone. Well, here we are, living in our "zone" when we start getting tossed around by the enemy or by little things that pop up in our lives that try to upset our zone. What do we do? We start panicking.
But something amazing happens ... you look beyond the turbulent sea and the rough winds and lo, you see Jesus. He is walking towards you, ready to jump into the ship with you.
Next, the seas did not go calm and the wind did not cease immediately. Instead, Jesus comforts His disciples with His Word. You see, He doesn't take us out of the situation just yet — He wants us to be attentive to His Word first. He needs us to believe first. He wants us to trust in Him.
God does not want to just deliver us from our situation; He wants us to learn from them too. He told Peter to "come" to Him. He wants you and I to stretch our faith. "Me? Walk on water?" Absolutely! If Jesus gives the Word, is that not sufficient?
There is nothing we can do in our own strength. The seas became calm only when Peter became totally dependent on Jesus.
That is what God will do ... He will calm your storm for you when you have let go of self and you have trusted completely in Him. Would you surrender everything to Him today?
