When We Don't Need God

And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence. And he said unto Balak, Stand here by the burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.

Numbers 23:13 and 15

Balaam had to have a donkey speak to him before his eyes were opened and he heard the word of the LORD. Balaam was a man who waited on the LORD for answers. Balak was the leader of the Moabites and he saw the children of Israel camp outside his kingdom. He feared, and he called for Balaam to curse the people that they might be destroyed. But Balaam would not do so. He asked God first and then spake as the LORD gave him utterance.

There are times in our lives when we fail to do that. We don't need God. We make decisions out of haste and want instead of seeking the LORD and getting His divine wisdom and guidance. But when else do we stop needing God?

When our prayer life becomes lip service and not heart-inspired, "Dear Lord, bless the food we eat and bless the hands that prepared the food. Amen." A quick prayer said out of duty.

Our prayer life is lip service at night too, it seems. Some of us even forget to pray as we go to rest our weary heads. What am I saying? Don't just pray for the sake of praying. Pray because you have a genuine desire to seek Gods providence in your life.

It seems we do not need God when were on the road either. Do you ask God to cover your car as you drive to work? Or to protect the taxi or bus driver and give him wisdom as he transports you? Do you ask God to direct your footsteps, to give His angels charge over you? Is God truly your Strong Banner?

Talk to the Holy Spirit often. Develop a lifestyle of talking to God. Seek the Lord in everything that you do. Know that there is nothing you can do without Gods help. God is ready to hear the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man 24 hours a day.
