A Warm Greeting

Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 1:1

Maya Angelou wrote a poem about Christians. In the poem she writes, "When I say ... I am a Christian, I'm not holier than thou, I'm just a simple sinner, Who received Gods good grace."

A warm greeting goes a long way in making friends. So often we rush into the office, eager to start working that we miss many opportunities to reach out to people with a simple greeting and a warm smile.

You can make a difference in peoples lives by simply greeting them. We need to stop treating peoples differences as cancerous — because they look different or behave differently to us; we keep away from them. Do you not know that Jesus sat with the publicans and sinners? He could have chosen to sit with the Pharisees and priests, but He chose to reach out to those who needed Him.

You can make the difference. Too often we wait for others to make the first move, "Oh, look at that, he walked right past me and did not even greet me." Well, perhaps that person is saying the exact same thing about you. Make the first move. Be different. Loneliness is a killer. Some people just need to see a wholesome smile and their day is enlightened.

Take some time out of your busy schedule to make a friend. It has nothing to do with sharing the Word or telling people the good news; just greet and strike up a conversation. That is the doorway to winning people over and for people to see the Jesus in you.

Remember that Jesus did not preach to Zaccheus, the tax collector. Jesus went home for tea with Zaccheus — an informal chat around tea and a mans life was transformed. God is no respecter of persons, why must we be different?
