Have a Desire For the Kingdom

And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them, and they made ready the Passover.

Matthew 26:19

In order to be an effective witness for Jesus, it is essential that you have a desire for Christ. A desire that makes you want to do more for the Kingdom. Jesus called twelve disciples, but surely not all of them just dropped everything to follow Him? After all, Jesus was just another man in their eyes; why should they follow Him? Yet, without asking questions, they gave up everything to live for Him.

Livelihoods were affected — fishermen became fishers of men, hated tax collectors became disciples, a doctor became a disciple and saw people made whole without medication. The twelve disciples gave up their very lives to follow Jesus. And that, too, for only three years.

After three years of effectual ministry these men must have been very sad when the Master told them, "A little while and ye shall not see me."

In Matthew 26 we read the disciples eagerness to please the Master. Why? Because for a short time they walked and talked with the Master; they saw the miracles, they witnessed people set free, they saw the power of God through Jesus Christ — and they believed. They did not wait for Jesus to tell them what to do; instead they went to Him and asked Him, "What do we do next, Master?"

Beloved, be eager to complete the work that God has started in your life. Do not become stagnant. When you feel like you are going nowhere, go to God and get direction. And when you see opportunity — do not hesitate to get the strategy from God and take action.

Do not be content with just going to church every Sunday. Rather, look around you. The harvest is ripe already. Go forth and reap a harvest for the LORD.
