What Doest Thou Here?
And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
1 Kings 19:9Elijah was an anointed prophet. He knew the power of God and was able to challenge the prophets of Baal and disgrace and destroy them because of this unfailing faith. But Elijah was also human, and after being threatened by Jezebel he fled for his life and wished himself dead.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." An expected end. God knows the end from the beginning. Satan knows your destiny too. And just as he was able to use Jezebel to have Elijah run away, he continues his attacks against Gods children so that they can be diverted from the life God has planned for them.
God has an expected end and a glorious vision for your life. If Satan is so eager to destroy that, should you not be more eager to ask God where you need to be? Why is Satan after your destiny? Why does he want to steal that vision from you? Why does he want to kill you prematurely? And why does he want to utterly consume and destroy you?
I ask you today, Are you the kind of Christian that hides your faith in caves, where God has to come to you and ask, "What doest thou here?" Are you hiding because of what the enemy has thrown at you? Or are you the enthusiastic, fired up, born-again, Holy Spirit-inspired child of the Most High God that is not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ?
Like David proclaimed in Psalm 40, can you declare, "I delight to do Thy will, O my God." Or are you seeking your own life, your own pleasures; are you running further and further away from where God wants you to be, chasing after materialistic gain? Or has Satan diverted you through poverty and distress? What is your excuse for hiding in a cave, trying to avoid the real life God has planned for you?
