  1. Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

  14. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

  15. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

  16. But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

  17. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

  18. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

  19. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

  20. Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

  21. I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

  22. My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

  23. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
